Whiplash Injuries: Prognosis and Compensation

Author: Richard H. Adler

I recently came across the enclosed research study, entitled "Whiplash Injuries: Their Long-Term Prognosis And Its Relationship To Compensation," published in Neuro-Orthopedics (1989).

This medical research study focused on the question of whether prolonged symptoms following a cervical acceleration/deceleration injury arising from a rear-end traffic collision are likely to improve once the patient receives compensation for their injuries.

The authors concluded that:

. . . a whiplash injury has a significant likelihood of resulting in long-term symptoms which in the majority of cases may be physical in nature, and that the settlement of compensation is unlikely to affect the long-term outcome. These points should be borne in mind both when treating patients and when compiling medical reports.

I trust you will find this article informative and useful.

Sincerely,
ADLER GIERSCH, P.S.
